SWIS

Settlement Worker in Schools (SWIS)

Newcomer parents and children often require assistance so they feel comfortable with their new school. MJMC's SWIS team works collaboratively with the schools in Moose Jaw to help newcomers understand the requirements of the school such as permission forms, fees, school supplies and enrollment.

The Youth and Community Connections Worker is a combined SWIS and Community Connections department team member. They are responsible to work with SWIS workers to ensure that newcomer students feel welcome within the community, are provided with opportunities to have positive interactions with other youth, and provide group activities that will further the student's ability to interact, engage, and adapt in the school setting as well as the community.  See the Community Connections page for information about how this position is involved in newcomer community engagement.
