In 2024, we celebrate 50 years of hard work helping newcomers settle in Moose Jaw, providing services that meet most of their needs. The Moose Jaw Multicultural Council (MJMC) began as a sub-committee of the Canada Week Committee in 1974 and became an official organization with its first elected executive officers in October of that year. In 1989, MJMC established its first official office and introduced the Settlement Services program, which helps newcomers settle in the city and learn about city services. Over the years, the organization has slowly grown and added the variety of services that we offer today, all in the pursuit of assisting new immigrants to Canada in settling in their new life. In that time an increasing number of immigrants and refugees have come through our doors, benefitting the community and the surrounding area. Many have become citizens themselves and work to help newcomers who follow in their footsteps. None of this work would be possible the dedication of our staff and volunteers throughout our 50 years in the community.
